THE PLACE, READ SLOWLY
A HOME READ FROM THE LAND OUTWARD.
A limestone courtyard house that edits the Mediterranean into a sequence of shade, salt air and long horizon lines.
Casa Vela is arranged as a low constellation of limestone rooms around a wind-protected court. From the arrival passage, the house reveals the sea gradually: first as reflected light, then as a blue plane held between two walls, and finally as the full northern horizon.
The main living room, kitchen and library occupy the seaward wing. Deep reveals and pivoting timber screens temper the afternoon sun, while a continuous stone floor runs outward to the pool terrace. Each bedroom has its own small garden or framed ocean view, giving guests privacy without separating them from the life of the house.
Materials were selected to become quieter with age. Local limestone, lime plaster, brushed oak and unlacquered brass gather salt and patina rather than resist them. A concealed energy system, rainwater storage and native planting allow the residence to remain generous while responding carefully to its exposed coastal setting.
