Río Claro House descends through a grove of mature oaks toward the water. Rather than present a single façade, it is composed as a sequence of stone walls and rust-red courts that widen, narrow and turn with the terrain. The lake appears unexpectedly between them.
The social rooms are generous but never anonymous. A sunken living room, open kitchen and shaded dining loggia form one continuous level, while a studio and screening room occupy quieter volumes above. Six suites step down the slope, each with a private terrace and a different register of the lake.
Locally quarried volcanic stone carries from the landscape into the interiors. Oxidized steel, woven fibre and dark timber add warmth without competing with the strong geology. Gardens use native grasses and cloud-forest species, extending the house into a habitat that changes with rain and season.
